SALDEF Honored with TSA’s Multicultural Coalition Partnership Award

WASHINGTON –  This week SALDEF was presented with the Multicultural Coalition Partnership Award by Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The award recognizes SALDEF’s long-standing collaboration and partnership with TSA and SALDEF’s significant work on the recently developed online training “Effective Engagement and Screening of Sikh Travelers and their Religious Items”. This training will be available to TSA officers nationwide. It will give TSA officers a better understanding of how to respectfully engage with Sikh travelers and the Sikh articles of faith.

Over the years SALDEF has worked with TSA to develop appropriate cultural and religious awareness training materials and conduct “Know Your Rights” Forums across the country.

“Our collaboration with TSA has resulted in a solution that strengthens TSA’s ability to protect our nation’s airports while respecting the civil liberties of all travelers of faith. We will continue to work closely with TSA to ensure that the implementation of new procedures does not result in the inappropriate profiling of Sikhs and other travelers,” said SALDEF Executive Director Kiran Kaur Gill.

SALDEF would like to thank TSA for this honor.
