The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) congratulates New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal on his appointment as Enforcement Director of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

“SALDEF congratulates Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal on his appointment as Enforcement Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission,” said Kiran Kaur Gill, SALDEF Executive Director. “We are excited to see a Sikh American appointed to this important position of public trust. Throughout his career, Grewal has served as a mentor and role model for young Sikh Americans across the country. We thank the Biden Administration and SEC Chair Gensler for recognizing Grewal’s experience, leadership, and commitment to public service.”

As Enforcement Director, Grewal will be responsible for overseeing the SEC’s regulation and enforcement of Wall Street and financial fraud. When he was appointed New Jersey Attorney General, Grewal became the first Sikh American to serve as a state attorney general in the country.
