He completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (Kharagpur), and followed that by completing his Masters and PhD in Computer Science at Yale University.

Dr. Singh was a technologist and serial entrepreneur extraordinaire, serving as Chairman and CEO of Excelan, a leader in local area network technology, which later merged into Novell. We send our deepest condolences and ardaas to the Singh and Kaur family on this tremendous loss.”

Dr. Singh was also a visionary leader for the Sikh American community. He founded the Chardhi Kalaa Foundation to serve as a home for dialogue, learning and vichaar (reflection).  He organized classes, seminars and an annual conference on the Guru Granth Sahib to encourage community discussion and show that spiritual engagement and critical thinking go hand-in-hand.

“Dr. Singh was a humble and steadfast pillar of support for the community and SALDEF. Since the early days of the organization’s founding in 1996. I, personally, experienced his depth of humility, grace, and unwavering faith in Sikhi. We will miss his strategic guidance and wisdom,” stated SALDEF Co-Founder and Board Chair Manjit Singh.
