Washington, DC—The Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) applauds President Biden’s signing of an Executive Order establishing the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (WHIAANHPI) and appointing Krystal Ka’ai as Executive Director of the Initiative. The executive order reflects many of the recommendations SALDEF and its partners made to the Administration about engagement with the AANHPI community.
“WHIAANHPI has played a key role in national federal engagement with the Sikh American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander community over the years,” said Kiran Kaur Gill, Executive Director of SALDEF. “We thank the Biden Administration for expanding the mission of WHIAANHPI to recognize the wide-ranging needs and diversity of the AANHPI community. We congratulate Krystal Ka’ai on her appointment as Executive Director. Ms. Ka’ai has been a longtime partner of SALDEF and the Sikh American community in Congress and will bring that expertise to the White House. We look forward to working with her and WHIAANHPI.”
