SALDEF and Seva Truck will be partnering to give back to the local community on Guru Nanak’s 550th Gurpurab! We will be handing out meals and winter supplies on November 12th the Braddock Elementary School in Annandale, Virginia.
According to Feeding America, even in the world’s greatest food-producing nation, children and adults face poverty and hunger in every county across America.
- More than 38 million people are living in poverty in America. In 2019, most families living in poverty earn less than $25,750 per year.
- More than 37 million people struggle with hunger in the United States, including more than 11 million children.
- Children are more likely to face food insecurity than any other group in the United States.
- The food insecurity rate in Virginia is 11.8%, Maryland with 11.4%, and Washington D.C. at 14.5%, making D.C. the 6th highest food insecurity rate in the nation.

Food Drive and Packing:
When: November 10th from 3 pm to 5 pm
Where: GNFA Gurdwara – 12917 Old Columbia Pike, Silver Spring, MD 20904.
What: We are looking to collect supplies including water bottles (mini bottles), desserts, fruit and winter supplies (hats, gloves, scarves) to distribute at the event. Any donations will be appreciated.
