SALDEF Addresses Unsubstantiated ICE Presence Reports

Washington, D.C.— SALDEF (Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund) has thoroughly investigated reports regarding alleged Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) presence at gurdwaras in the New York and New Jersey areas. Following our review, we can confirm that no ICE raids or enforcement actions were conducted at these locations.

We understand the deep concern and fear these reports may have caused within our community. Gurdwaras are sacred spaces that serve as spiritual and cultural sanctuaries for Sikh Americans, and any perceived threat to their sanctity is deeply unsettling.

While recent reports regarding ICE raids were unsubstantiated, it is crucial for our community to remain vigilant and practice caution in these uncertain times. The safety of our gurdwaras and congregations is of paramount importance, and it is essential that we do not allow fear to undermine the sanctity of these sacred spaces.

“Our role is to stand with the Sikh community and ensure transparency and accountability when concerns arise,” said Kiran Kaur Gill, Executive Director of SALDEF. “We remain dedicated to protecting the rights of Sikh Americans and providing guidance and support to ensure they are able to practice their religion freely.”

We encourage community members to report any incidents or concerns directly to us at jaslin.kaur@saldef.org.
