Dear Friend,
Join me and over a quarter million people of all faiths and backgrounds at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, this Saturday, August 24th at 8am. I am honored to have been invited to share the words of our Gurus as part of the opening prayer at the official commemoration of the 50th Anniversary March on Washington, where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired the nation with his famous “I Have a Dream Speech”. The March on Washington signifies the struggles in the fight for social justice and freedom for all, a fight that we are all too familiar with. As Sikh Americans, we acknowledge the legacy of those who stood on the front lines of the civil rights movement and recognize that our progress is a result of their sacrifice. Fifty years ago, there was no Sikh American standing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial but this Saturday, we will have the opportunity to share our message of Sarbat Da Bhalla and Chardi Kala with our fellow Americans. If you can’t be in Washington, follow us on Twitter, on Facebook, and watch the events live on MSNBC. I look forward to being with you at this historic occasion. Guru Fateh!!
