Who Do You Know?

Who do you know who could be the next Bhagat Singh Thind pioneering a Sikh American legacy? Who do you know who could be the next Dalip Singh Saund bringing the Sikh American voice to Capitol Hill? Who do you know who could be the next Waris Singh Ahluwalia breaking glass ceilings in Hollywood? Who do you know who could be the next Manmeet Kaur piloting new healthcare solutions via City Health Works? Tell us! We want to know. SALDEF’s SikhLEAD Initiative is now accepting applications for the next class of the SikhLEAD Leadership Development Program (LDP) and we are inviting all creative, daring minds to apply today! (You can learn more about the program below.) Are you or someone in your community the next Sikh American leader? We hope that all qualified Sikhs apply. Applications are due by midnight EST, July 27. Start the journey at www.SikhLEAD.org WHAT IS LDP? LDP is a two part program that brings together approximately 18 young Sikh American leaders from across the country to participate in eight days of training spread over two holiday weekends (Columbus Day and Memorial Day). Participants are encouraged to use their entrepreneurial skills to be inventive and creative while staying true to their convictions, moving quickly, and building relationships amongst other characteristics. The aim of LDP is to empower Sikh American youth (ages 18-27) to become effective changemakers committed to exploring and realizing both their personal potential and that of the Sikh American community. WHAT DOES IT REQUIRE? Participation in (and reading prior) to both weekends is mandatory. A series of challenging workshops, group activities and thought provoking discussions promotes personal growth, develops leadership and builds community empowerment skills. PERKS? Access to SikhLEAD’s exclusive speaker series Hear from established American changemakers about ways to make a difference and then connect through powerful conversations. Speakers have included: US Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, Congresswoman Judy Chu, Congressman Ami Bera, former Apple CMO Satjiv Singh Chahil, lawyer and politician Harmeet Kaur Dhillon, Common Ground President Craig Bowman and marathoner Fauja Singh! Membership to an exclusive SikhLEAD alumni network Join a comprehensive network of Sikh American Leaders who have shared the SikhLEAD experience and gone on to pursue lifelong dreams which support and increase awareness about our community. This program is an investment in building the next generation of Sikh American leaders as they recognize their power, explore their true potential and build a network with like-minded achievers. LDP graduates have been inspired to create new pathways for Sikhs Americans—including Jasleen Kaur Singh, creator of The Sikh Monologues, and Gurpreet Singh Sarin, a semi-finalist on American Idol. Don’t miss reunions and meetings held at SALDEF’s Fall Gala each year. Two personally and professionally invigorating weekends in DC and LA Part I of the training will be held in Washington, DC from October 10-14, 2014 and Part II will be held in Los Angeles, CA from May 22-25, 2015.
