‘SikhToons’ Founder Joins SALDEF as New Media Fellow

Accomplished Artist Brings Expertise, Enthusiasm to Sikh American Organization

Washington, DC—Vishavjit Singh, whose work as ‘Sikh Captain America’ fighting intolerance has been featured in major American and international media outlets, is joining the Sikh American Legal Defense and Education Fund (SALDEF) as a Media Fellow. Singh is also the creative force behind the renowned www.sikhtoons.com. Singh, who founded www.sikhtoons.com in 2002, has focused his art on social and religious developments within the Sikh community around the world. In the last few years that work has expanded to include broader issues of intolerance and acceptance. Vish’s art has been featured in museum exhibits and at film festivals, youth retreats, and conferences. He has been featured in diverse media outlets including the New York Times, the BBC, NPR, MSNBC, Atlantic Monthly, and Salon. Vish’s bio appears below. —

Vishavjit “Vish” Singh has released weekly cartoons on his website since 2002. His art focused on political, social, economic, and religious developments within the Sikh community around the world. In the last few years that work has expanded to include broader issues of intolerance, acceptance and American values. Vish’s art has been featured in museum exhibits and at film festivals, youth retreats, and conferences. He has been featured in diverse media outlets including the New York Times, the BBC, NPR, MSNBC, Atlantic Monthly, and Salon. A survivor of the 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms in India, he studied Biological Sciences at University of California, Santa Barbara and Biostatistics/Epidemiology in Graduate School at University of California, Berkeley.
