As 2017 comes to an end, SALDEF has diligently worked to deliver on further empowering you by educating our fellow Americans about who Sikhs are and in telling the Sikh American story. To this end we are:

Earlier this Summer, our partners at Comcast, re-aired the Sikh American PSA on its network of channels for the fourth consecutive year. This year, we received nearly $1.2 million of airtime during the month of June as the PSA aired roughly 103,000 times during that time. To date, the Sikh American community and SALDEF have received over $6.3 million in airtime from Comcast at no cost to the community. Help us raise the $23,000 we need to produce the next version of the Sikh American Commercial so that we can continue to tell the Sikh American story!

Partnering with Major Television Studios

cbs2_TVLeveraging our pioneering Turban Myths Report, SALDEF continued our work to build the Sikh American presence in the media. During the past two years, we have worked with major network television studios ABC, CBS, and NBC, to increase our presence both in front and behind the camera. This relationship has been critical in leading the increase of Sikh American experts appearing on the news, as well as the airing of the Sikh American experience on ABC News’ What Would You Do.

SALDEF collaborated with ABC News producers and casting agents of What Would you Doto air the first ever prime-time news exposure of the Sikh American experience on network television.  We partnered with the show to help identify Sikh candidates for the role as well as to ensure that the story accurately reflects Sikhi and the experiences of the Sikh American community. In addition during the year, we have worked to secure several dozen media placements to tell the Sikh American story, created events to gain media coverage for the community, continued to leverage our media fellow to extend our mission by building dialogue and deepening understanding of the community. SALDEF is raising the visibility of our community to new heights.
