Hundreds Attend Langar on the Hill 2017!

Over 400 attendees including Sikh community members, staffers, NCAPA partners, and other Washington D.C. leaders joined us yesterday for our 4th Annual Langar on the Hill!

Sponsored by Senator Kamala Harris and Congressman Ami Bera, this year’s theme was “Unity through Seva”. This was achieved by providing our attendees, including Congressman John Garamendi, Rep. Mike Coffman, Congressman Ami Bera, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and Rep. Sheila Jackson, the opportunity to package meals alongside each other.

“At a time when we see divisive rhetoric escalating across the country, these opportunities for dialogue are especially important,” said Amrita Bamrah, SALDEF Program Manager. “Our nation is stronger when we stand united, and I applaud the SikhLEAD internship class for creating a space to celebrate the diversity of the United States of America.”

SALDEF partnered with Seva Truck, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing hunger in communities by serving hot, nutritious meals to anyone in need, to package 500 meals which were delivered to the DC Central Kitchen after the event last night.
