Telling our Story
Leveraging our pioneering Turban Myths Report, SALDEF made great strides in 2014 to build a Sikh American presence in the media. Whether we were creating the first Sikh American commercial, securing over 60 media placements to tell the Sikh American story or training Sikh Americans to more effectively engage with the media, SALDEF is raising the visibility of our community to new heights.

Building Future Leaders
In 2011, SALDEF launched a unique initiative called SikhLEAD to inspire, train and support young Sikh Americans as they prepare for a lifetime of community engagement and leadership. Just three years later, we placed fourteen students on Capitol Hill and in the DC offices this summer, creating the largest Sikh voice in our nation’s capital in Sikh American history. This year’s internship class organized the first “Langar on Capitol Hill” to raise awareness amongst policy makers about our community. Additionally we graduated our third Leadership Development Program (LDP) class in May, and welcomed our fourth LDP class this October. With your support, we can continue to develop leadership skills, encourage political and civic engagement, and provide unparalleled experiences for our youth.

We continue to represent you on Capitol Hill and with the leaders of our government in our Nation’s Capital. From testifying in Congress on voting rights and the Sikh American experience to becoming a trusted partner with government and receiving the first ever TSA community partnership award, we continue to have an impact for the Sikh American community.
